Montessori Pretend Play Toys
Pretend play is how children rehearse the world. A child making you a cup of tea is practising sequence, language and social turn-taking all at once, and a child playing doctor is usually working through something that worried them. These sets are built around everyday scenes children already recognise, which is what makes the play run deep.
- Wooden kitchens, food sets and cutting fruit and vegetables
- Tea sets and bakery play for sharing and taking turns
- Doctor kits and tool sets for role play and confidence
- Shop and cafe play introducing counting and money
Pretend play sets tend to get used hardest when they mirror something specific your child watches you do. A coffee maker means little to a household that does not use one, while a tea set in a tea-drinking home gets played with daily. It is worth choosing based on your actual routines rather than the set that looks most complete on the shelf.
Pretend play overlaps heavily with practical skills - see our life skills toys and toys for 2 year olds collections for the real-tools version of the same idea.
